Appreciation is the habit of every noble person.
When we see something deserving of praise, we often, out of a sense of respect, feel obligated to express our appreciation towards it.
There are times however, when appreciation may cross a boundary and become something that imposes limits on one’s own self from achieving similar to that which is the subject of one’s praise.
Such excessive praise of another’s skill or genius elevates the person and their act to a station implying that no human could normally achieve it – that the object of praise is so unique that no one else could ever dream of coming close to its outcome.
This may end up metamorphising into a self-limiting belief where one therefore believes such a work is impossible for one’s self to accomplish. The genius belongs to the original person and none can achieve it but him.
In some ways, this is true since when one expresses the genius within himself, its precise expression is unique to him. We may attribute the unique genius to the person, but to overindulge and overpraise it removes it from our realm of possibility.
Appreciate and respect true geniuses and their works, but do not let your praise of others become a limiting belief for ourself.
Nurture your own genius.
